Your Inner Healers: A Look into the Potential of Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells
From Scientific American: One for teachers, students and anyone trying to get their head around the science and associated issues of Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells
Scientific American: May 2010.
Could it really be so easy to roll back the internal clock of any mammalian cell and return it to an embryonic state? Scientific American explore the potential and state of knowledge of Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSCs). This link gives you a preview, but on the page there is a link to a great interactive that includes vide0, audio and animations to look at the science and explore the issues.

Stem cell therapies: now and in the future
CSIRO and the Australian Stem Cell Centre are holding a free public lecture on stem cell research.
CSIRO and the Australian Stem Cell Centre are holding a free public lecture on stem cell research.
Come and listen to three experts and ask questions on embryonic stem cell research, adult stem cell research and therapies, and umbilical cord blood banking, uses and research.
With all the recent media and commentary on stem cells: death of a woman following stem cell treatment; possibly outrageous claims being made about plant stem cells and their use in cosmetics – to make you look younger apparently – and the speculation that some German research on Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells may not be all that it is cracked up to be. Should make for an interesting lecture and discussion and it is happening 20 metres from my office. Ultra-convenient.
