Plant protein discovery could lead to drought-tolerant crops

Plant enzymes that have been found that may help engineer plants to take advantage of elevated carbon dioxide yet use less water.

University of California, San Diego, has identified the protein sensors that control the opening of pores that allow the exchange of gases and water in the plant.  Report in the journal Nature Cell Biology online 13 December.
