Stem Cell Awareness. Your opportunity to find out stuff
Stem Cell Awareness Day – an online gig for the public to engage with the experts: What are stem cells; what new and cool breakthrough are out there; what are the ethical issues; can I trust unregulated “stem cell clinics”; can I bank my own or my children’s stem cells; what about a career in stem cell research?
Monash Stem Cell and Immunology Laboratories (MISCL) recently held a Stem Cell Awareness Day as a public education initiative linking scientists, clinicians, patients and the general public around the world. A key and continuing part of the event is a public online forum streaming presentations from high profile national and international speakers on topics from stem cells 101 – the basics, Australian laws and regulations, the cool science through to how stem cells are being used in the clinic (iPS, spinal disk repair, diabetes…and more).
The video presentations are live for the rest of October and you can post questions and engage in online forums on a range of topics.
The GNTIS has had a number of enquiries this year about stem cells, so I know there are loads of people out there interested in what is presented in these presentations and forums.
Here is where you start: www.stemcellawarenessday.com
And yes I should have got around to posting this sooner – forgot
