Regarding your thoughts on the cosmetics industry may I point you to a book chapter I have co-written with colleagues from Manchester University and from SIFO. The chapter have something to add to your analysis, I think. It is in a book recently published by IOS Press, the name of the book is "Technoscience in Progress.
